Getting deported from the Philippines

I was reading one of my favorite blogs today, and the blogger was commenting on the possibility of being deported from the Philippines, and some of the reasons one might be deported.

I know that most of the more common reasons are well known, like committing a crime, overstaying ones visa, but did you realize that insulting a Philippine citizen can get you deported, or loosing your temper, shouting and demanding proper service from a store attendant.

I don’t know about you but I have lost my temper several times dealing with the nonchalant attitude that is sometimes shown by service providers in the Philippines. The stores can be very crowded, service slow, and the traffic in Manila at a stand still, this is a very hard thing to deal with sometimes, even experienced travelers to the Philippines such as I, have a hard time keeping the internal temperature down to a low boil when traveling through the airport in Manila during the holidays.

Loosing one’s temper can happen at any time, especially if you have had several difficult things to deal with in a short period of time, so keep in mind that when traveling in the Philippines, you are not in your home country and things don’t happen at the same pace, the customs are different, such as the famous (Filipino time), if you are not familiar with this then let me explain, Filipino time is generally about one to two hours late for any event, like a party, or business meeting, this is considered normal, so if you have an appointment for just about anything, then don’t be surprised if the person you are meeting is about one to two hours late, just take it easy, and when in Rome do as the Romans do.
